Lin’s Re-Grand Opens in Cedar City
Grocery store celebrates remodel and new addition with ribbon-cutting and special events

Cedar City, UT (February 13, 2017) After several months of renovations, Lin’s in Cedar City is welcoming guests to the revitalized store. To celebrate the remodel, the locally owned grocery store will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 13 at 10 a.m. Afterwards, guests are invited to sample products and explore hundreds of new offerings including an expanded produce selection featuring dozens of organic items, more meal solutions like fresh-rolled sushi and Lin’s signature in-store butcher block and scratch bakery.

“We are excited to better serve the Cedar City community with a variety of new offerings including a drive-through pharmacy, online ordering and curbside pickup and much more,” said Steve Holm, Lin’s district manager. “We know our shoppers will love the improvements as much as we do.

The remodeled location uses the latest innovations to create a one-stop shopping experience for guests through various programs, products and services. Two of the most notable additions include the healthy attributes shelf tag program, which marks natural, organic, healthy and “good for you” products throughout the store. The second exciting addition is Lin’s to Go online shopping powered by Rosie, which allows shoppers to order their groceries online and then stop by the store for curbside pick-up. Other new additions include:

  • An expanded produce department with more than 400 new items including more local and organic products
  • Lin’s signature butcher block offers organic, grass-fed and “free-from” meat and poultry
  • Lin’s scratch bakery with artisan breads, hand-decorated cakes and Lin’s signature doughnuts
  • An expanded dairy selection including more natural and organic products and cage-free eggs
  • An extensive selection of bulk foods where shoppers can get the pinch or pound they need
  • Easy-access banking through an in-store America First Credit Union.
  • An in-store Starbucks—Coming this Spring

Guests are encouraged to stop by the store during the grand opening week for an extra surprise. Several hearts have been placed throughout the aisles for shoppers to find and redeem at the service desk for a special treat.

“We are pleased to introduce the new Cedar City Lin’s and all its new features and offerings,” said Store Director Rich Jensen. “I’m excited for everyone to see the store and enjoy the incredible Lin’s shopping experience we have worked so hard to create.”

Associated Food Stores and eComSystems Work Together for Innovation
Grocery wholesaler and technology firm bring better programs to independent retailers

Salt Lake City, UT (February 6, 2017) With the goal of helping retailers succeed, Associated Food Stores (AFS) and eComSystems have joined together to make print advertising easier for independent grocers. The wholesaler and technology firm partnered in 2013 to create AFS AdStudio, a custom advertising development and production program that allows retailers to quickly and easily build beautiful custom weekly ads. Since then, the companies have worked together to develop industry-leading business solutions for more than 400 independent retailers AFS serves.

“AFS has always looked for ways to better serve our retailers and their customers. It’s one of the key convictions that sets us apart,” said Jason Sokol, AFS’ director of marketing. “Our partnership with eCom has served as a platform for AFS to lead our industry with technology that enhances the shopping experience.”

Over the last few months, AFS and eComSystems have worked on two major projects to enhance the functionality of two of their programs—AdViewer and AFS AdStudio. The mobile version of AdViewer, which allows guests to view retailer’s weekly ad on their mobile device, received an update to make the ads more responsive, quicker and easier to read on a mobile device. The update was driven by retailer feedback and the desire to better serve the growing number of guests in digital spaces.

Today, the companies announced that AFS AdStudio, the program designed to help retailers build and produce weekly print ads, has moved to HTML5. This move will increase program speeds while improving browser compatibility and enhancing features to make creating weekly ads even easier for retailers.

“Our relationship with AFS is the model of what a partnership should be.  We’re focused supporting retailers and providing ways to help them grow and thrive, strengthening relationships with their customers while forging opportunities with new ones, all the while making it as easy as possible for them to do business better in their demanding retail environment,” said Jon Evans, president/CEO of eComSystems. “We look forward to continuing our partnership and appreciate the personal and professional interaction with the AFS team and the retailers we serve.”

Associated Food Stores Distribution Center Takes a Step Forward in Food Safety
New systems implemented to monitor temperatures

Salt Lake City, UT (November 2, 2016) Associated Food Stores (AFS) is making changes to improve food safety at its Farr West Distribution Center. The Utah-based wholesaler recently implemented two new systems, the AutoSense Inbound and AutoSense Real-Time logger to help monitor temperature and ensure products remain in compliance with food safety regulations during transport and storage. The new systems have been implemented over the last 12 months.

AutoSense InBound allows AFS to track the temperature of a pallet during transport from the vendor to the distribution center. Vendors purchase, program and set the chip on their pallets before they are shipped. When the pallet arrives at the distribution center it syncs with AFS’ iBrite monitoring system and provides a temperature report, allowing the receiving team to determine the safeness of the product before accepting the load.

“A few months ago we received a load of bananas that had basically cooked inside the trailer during transport. With the report from AutoSense Inbound we were able to show that it wasn’t safe and it saved us from losing the load,” said Terri Jensen, receiving manager at the distribution center. She and her team have spearheaded the effort to bring the AutoSense trackers to the facility.

AFS has also implemented the AutoSense Real-Time logger to help monitor the temperature of products stored in trailers when the distribution is in overflow. The system monitors the temperature inside each trailer and sends an alert to the receiving team if any go out of range, allowing them to quickly check it and make adjustments before the product is compromised.

“The AutoSense systems are basically insurance policies for us and our vendors,” Jensen said. “They allow us to ensure the products we receive and send to our stores are safe and prevent us from losing product.”

Associated Food Stores serves more than 400 independent retailers across eight Intermountain West states. For more information about AFS or to find a retailer near you, visit www.afstores.com
