Neal Berube and Dean Peterson Inducted into UFIA Hall of Fame 

Neal Berube, former president and CEO of Associated Food Stores (AFS), was inducted into the Utah Food Industry Association’s (UFIA) Hall of Fame during the organization’s annual conference on October 19. Dean Peterson, former president of Harmons, was also inducted into the UFIA Hall of Fame.

Berube was the president and CEO of AFS for nine years. Berube served previously as an executive vice president of Associated Food Stores and president of Fresh Market, Inc. Berube has also served as the chief operating officer of and chief financial officer of the company.  

Berube joined Associated Food Stores in August of 1990. Prior to his tenure at AFS, he was employed by Deloitte and Touché in Salt Lake City, Utah as a staff and senior accountant.  He also worked for United Savings Bank and Western Mortgage Loan Corp. and held the titles of controller, vice president, senior vice president and chief financial officer.  

Dean Peterson has been in the grocery industry for over 48 years. He started as a night stocker at Harmons in 1973 and went on to hold numerous store-level positions, including working as a cashier, grocery manager, and store director. Working his way through the ranks, he became president of Harmons in 1996.  

UFIA has recognized retailers and suppliers that make significant contributions to the grocery industry and community with an induction into the Hall of Fame since 1980. Those honored are nominated and voted for by the board of directors.
