Transportation teams across the AFS service area recently hosted several Driver Appreciation Banquets to recognize the dedication and service of AFS drivers. One of the final events was held at the Davis Conference Center, where drivers, spouses and guests, transportation leaders and members of the executive team gathered for an evening of appreciation and connection.
Wayne Kinder, transportation manager, welcomed the group and shared updates on the transportation team’s direction and priorities for the coming year.
“The annual driver banquets give us a chance to step back for an evening and simply thank our drivers for the work they do all year long,” said Wayne. “They handle a difficult job and do it in some of the toughest conditions in the industry. It’s an honor to work with them.”
Justin Johnson, vice president of distribution, also addressed the crowd, providing an update on the completion of Project ROAR along with other important transportation and operational updates.
“It’s always a great event and an important part of AFS transportation history. It gives us a chance to catch up with drivers outside of work and personally thank them, and their significant others, for everything they do throughout the year,” said Justin.
The evening also included a video highlighting unusual happenings and close calls in the field, offering both perspective and a reminder of the importance of safety and awareness on the road.
Several drivers were also recognized for achieving safe driving milestones of one million miles or more. Award recipients included: Jerad Anderson, Kjel Bischoff, Jordan Bostwick and Jesus Garcia (not pictured) each received their 1MM plaque. Chad Elliott and John Jessop received their 2MM plaques, and Alan Baumgartner received an incredible 4MM safe driving plaque. Also honored was Barry Mousley, who recently retired, after serving AFS retailers for more than 52 years.
In addition to recognizing the drivers, the banquets also included a special acknowledgment of their spouses and significant others. Each was presented with a gift as a small token of appreciation for the important role they play. Their support is a key part of what allows drivers to work long hours and stay focused on safely serving our member retailers, and the evening was an opportunity to recognize that contribution directly.
AFS President and CEO David Rice attended the final banquet and personally thanked the drivers for the work they do each day to support member retailers.
“You are the backbone of our company, and our retailers deeply appreciate what you do for them,” Dave said. “In our annual retail surveys, the transportation team once again received the highest rankings of any team at AFS. We are incredibly grateful for your hard work, dedication and the service you provide every day.”
