Sometimes, the best ideas start with a little serendipity. For Red Button Vintage Creamery’s new line of ice cream novelties, the spark came after the 2024 Associated Food Stores (AFS) FoodShow. While watching a recap video from the event, Boyd Irving, vice president of exclusive brands, saw an interview with Stacy Harfert, owner of Roonies Ice Cream in Heber City, Utah and that’s when the idea first took root.
Shortly after, Boyd stumbled across an ice cream bike for sale on Facebook Marketplace. As fate would have it, the seller was none other than Stacy. One conversation turned into a collaboration, and a shared vision became reality.
Today, that vision is now a freezer full of delicious Red Button novelties, rolling out to retailers across the region.
“I saw her at the FoodShow and thought, ‘I want to partner with her,’” Boyd said. And the rest is history. Stacy and Roonies Ice Cream have worked hand-in-hand with the Red Button team to bring high-quality, fun, and nostalgic novelties to market—crafted with premium ingredients and finished with a signature touch of whimsy.
The ice cream can be enjoyed in three ice cream sandwiches and three indulgent ice cream bars.
- Cookie Dough – Chocolate chip cookies filled with creamy cookie dough ice cream
- Cookies & Cream – Made with real Oreo cookies
- Sprinkled Vanilla – Vanilla ice cream with a chocolate wafer and colorful sprinkles
- Cookies & Cream – A rich and creamy frozen treat swirled with chocolate cookie pieces
- Strawberry – Fruit flavor that makes for a delightfully tart and tasty treat
- Chocolate Chip Mint – Dipped in chocolate and finished with a rich chocolate drizzle (and Stacy’s personal favorite)
Retailers responded with immediate enthusiasm. Retailers are eager to sell these new products and at the 2025 FoodShow, all 102 novelty freezers that were on order were spoken for within the first two hours. More freezers have been ordered and over 170 will be shipped by mid-June. Red Button novelties are currently available in many MRO locations and select ARO stores while others may add them as space allows.
Over 2,300 cases have been sold within the six weeks of being added to the AFS membership, and the team doesn’t see the momentum slowing down anytime soon. “Stacy has some fantastic ideas,” Boyd shared. “They’ve been a hit so far, so we’re hopeful even more flavors are on the horizon.”
