Next week is the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week. Fire Prevention Week was first observed in 1922 in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire. Three years later President Calvin Coolidge declared Fire Prevention Week a national observance. The purpose of the week is to educate people about how to stay safe in case of a fire.

The AFS Fire Drill will be held on Tuesday, October 10th at 10:00 am. Team Members are encouraged to visit InSite to review AFS fire emergency procedures and escape planning tips. A home evacuation plan is also available for team members to download. Team members who complete and submit the Fire Escape Plan to Dave Karpowitz will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a prize! Plans must be submitted by October 9, 2022. Please email the plan to Dave Karpowitz at drkarpowitz@afstores.com or drop it off at his office.

CPR training will be held on October 13, 2022, and November 17, 2022, at from 11:00 – noon in the lunchroom. The classes are free of charge.

“Safety is number one on our Compass for Excellence and a big part of that is making sure our team members are safe,” shared Dave Karpowitz, AFS Safety Manager. Dave is head of the AFS Safety Council, comprised of members from across the company including Russ Hatt, the Physical Facilities Manager at the Corporate Office. “Russ works closely to make sure the fire alarms work correctly and that all water, gas and electrical utilities are checked and safe,” Dave continued.
