AFS drivers were recently celebrated in a series of driver appreciation banquets held throughout Associated Food Stores’ service area. These gatherings, hosted by members of the AFS executive team and distribution center leaders, offered a well-deserved thank you to the drivers who help keep everything moving, day in and day out.
As part of the effort, members of the leadership team visited stores in the areas where the banquets were held, including Boise, Helena, Billings and Layton, further strengthening connections with retailers. While at Beartooth Market in Red Lodge, Montana AFS leaders took the opportunity to help stock shelves after the store received its AFS delivery to show their support.
“That was a new experience for me,” said Justin Johnson, vice president of distribution. “Normally I’m grabbing cases, in this case we were grabbing ‘eaches.’ It really opened my mind to the labor it takes to put the product away, how small and tight the shelves are. It helped me think about the long-term impact of Project ROAR…it will be fun to see the positive impact of that project for our retailers.”

At the Utah event, Transportation Manager Wayne Kinder welcomed the crowd and shared a glimpse into the road ahead with a presentation on the 2025 transportation strategy. He touched on upcoming goals and initiatives, which are part of a continued effort to strengthen the operation and support drivers in the field.
A highlight of the meetings was the look back at photos from years past, sparking plenty of laughs and a few sentimental moments. It was a reminder of how far the team has come and the tight-knit culture that’s been built along the way. In addition, at one of the events, Floyd Halligan received an award as a three-million miler.
Justin also provided a brief update on Project ROAR and the broader direction of the logistics team to reinforce the company’s commitment to improvement and innovation.
To wrap up the evenings, a special moment was reserved for the drivers’ partners. Each spouse or significant other received a small gift as a thank-you for the support they give behind the scenes.
From Farr West to other key locations across the region, these banquets served as a reminder of the critical role drivers play in AFS’ success and just how much they’re appreciated.
