Lin’s Fresh Market provided drinking water, food and ice to Hurricane residents after flooding damaged homes near the store, including families still recovering from an August flood.
The donated supplies included Gatorade, chips, granola bars, other snacks and fresh fruit. Steve Holm, district manager over Lin’s, shared that damage was less than six blocks from the Hurricane store.
“This flood uprooted the same families again as happened this past August,” Steve said. “Only this time it was more water and more mud.”
Several families in the area were impacted by the flooding, including some whose homes had also been affected by the August flood. Steve also reported that the water, mud and debris prompted city and county emergency declarations.
The deliveries from Lin’s drew grateful responses from many community members. As an example, Hurricane store director Tim Jones described a call from a shopper who had seen a truck pulling a Lin’s trailer carrying supplies to flood-affected residents. She told Tim that seeing the store help its neighbors was why she chooses to shop there.
Tim, who was born and raised in Hurricane and has called it home for 39 years, also described what taking part in the deliveries meant to him.
“It meant a lot to me to be able to help deliver products and support our neighbors,” Tim said.
As of a few days ago, Steve reported enough volunteers and support to help with immediate needs. Steve said he would continue monitoring the situation and will keep the team informed if needs change.
“We at Lin’s are there to help where we can,” Steve said.
