For nearly 500 young people in southern Nevada, a recent Saturday brought an opportunity to see their communities from an entirely new perspective.
Lin’s Overton once again partnered with EAA Chapter 1707 to support the Young Eagles event Oct. 17 in Overton, Nevada, providing lunch for 95 volunteers who helped make the day possible.
The event welcomed children from Moapa Valley, Mesquite and Las Vegas, along with communities as far away as Alamo, Hiko and Henderson. Twenty-five pilots volunteered their time and aircraft to introduce the participants to aviation.
For many of the children, the event offered their first opportunity to fly in an airplane or even see one up close. Before taking to the sky, participants learned about the history of aviation, modern aircraft and what it takes to become a pilot.
Flights departed from Perkins Field in Overton and traveled south over Lake Mead before returning, with each flight lasting about 20 to 30 minutes.
“Events like this are a great example of why we love being part of these communities,” said Steve K. Holm, ARO regional director. “Lin’s is proud to support the volunteers who give their time and resources to create an experience these kids will remember.”
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Moapa Valley Fire Department and Las Vegas Search and Rescue also took part in the event, helping participants learn how airplanes and helicopters are used in day-to-day operations to support communities
For Lin’s Overton, supporting Young Eagles is another opportunity to be part of an event that brings the community together while giving young people an experience that could spark a lifelong interest in aviation.
