AFS recently hosted an in-depth training session for Member Retail Operations (MRO) retailers, focusing on the implementation of Computer Generated Ordering (CGO) practices. Led by Scott Phillips (programming supervisor) alongside Casey Clark (ARO pricing and process) and Parker Christensen (technology specialist), the training offered MRO partners a firsthand look at how Associated Retail Operations (ARO) is leveraging CGO to modernize ordering processes and strengthen the value chain for independent retailers.
The group visited two key locations that have begun implementing CGO—Macey’s Holladay and Lee’s Marketplace on 4th South in Salt Lake City. Participants learned how CGO uses predictive data and automated systems to improve ordering accuracy, reduce shrink, and ultimately free up team members to focus on serving guests.
“CGO is a massive undertaking, but the upside is equally massive,” said Scott Phillips, who has played a leading role in the project. “The potential gains in productivity and the reduction in shrink can transform how our stores operate.”
During the visits, retailers were able to see the tangible benefits of CGO implementation, from streamlined replenishment to improved on-shelf availability. Scott emphasized that this technology is about empowering teams with better tools. “When CGO is implemented well, it gives our store teams confidence that they’re ordering the right products in the right quantities,” he said. “That means less waste, fewer out-of-stocks, and a better experience for the guest.”
The training also demonstrated how AFS continues to invest in solutions that strengthen its independent retailers. By sharing ARO’s experience, the team hopes to help MRO partners adopt similar systems that will modernize their operations. As AFS continues to expand CGO training and implementation, the focus remains clear: supporting independent retailers with practical, impactful innovations that protect margins and enhance the guest experience.
